Winchester 1300 Serial Number Lookup
I just purchased a Winchester 1200 12g shotgun. The serial number is 1B2747. I can find no information about year of manufacture or even other 1200's with such a s/n. I've tried the usual locations (Win Dates of Manufacture, Gun-Data.com, Proofhouse). Does anyone have any information that may be helpful?
Actual production of guns reached serial number 752,044. After 1932 serial numbers were chosen at random; many numbers were skipped and the highest serial number recorded is 849,100. George Watrous, a Winchester employee, counted total production at 764,215 in 1944 when he made a count. Push-feed (Post-64) Model 70's began with serial number 700000 on 1 OCT 1963. The 'G' prefix was applied in compliance with federal regulations resulting from the Gun Control Act of 1968; no duplicate firearm serial numbers could be produced by a manufacturer. Winchester added a letter prefix to the existing serial number range for each model.
