I’ve heard of people running Windows XP, Vista, Mac OS X, and every imaginable flavor of Linux on various Eee PC models. But Jair2k4 decided that rather than try to get the latest and greatest operating system up and running, it might be fun to take a little trip back in time and install DOS and Windows 3.11.

The verdict? Sure, you can run it. I’m not sure why you’d want to, but you could. You can even get the Ethernet drivers working so you can do a bit of web surfing if you don’t mind carrying an Ethernet cable around with you. So if you’ve always wondered how Internet Explorer 2.0 runs on an Eee PC, it looks like you can find out.

Double-click on the icon to Install Ubuntu 11.04. At the Welcome window, S elect your language, and use Alt-Left Click anywhere in the window to drag it up to click the Forward button, since the massive 800x480 resolution of the Eee PC isn't QUITE able to fit it all on-screen.

Just for fun I got an Eee PC from a friend who was getting rid of it, and I would like to say to begin that it is just for a hobby/fun project, and I have NO intention of using this underpowered device as my main computer.
Anyways, I would like to know which operating system I should install to get the best performance out of this (underpowered) computer. Here are the specifications:

Asus Eee Pc 701

  Intel Atom N270 (specs @ Intel ARK)
  2GB DDR2 RAM
  16GB SSD (custom)
  Intel GMA graphics (integrated with the ATOM cpu)

Anyways, I just want to know which OS will work best. Linux, Windows, whatever OS.
